Tipster @IceUniverse reported on X that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will still weigh 233g, which is 1g less than the S23 Ultra, despite having a heavier titanium frame.
An important weight determining factor is the battery, and the capacity is still 5000 mAh, the same as last year. Although the battery tech is new, we found that this new stacked battery technology does not offer any higher energy-to-weight ratio. So the battery weights the same.
It’s all about utilizing the space more efficiently so that the same capacity takes up less space inside the phone. Leaks about the dimensions of the S24 Ultra also align with my analysis. The upcoming ultra model is 0.3mm thinner, which may very well be due to the battery taking up less volume for the same 5000mAh capacity.
But did the phone really get lighter? The titanium frame also adds more weight compared to previous models that had armored aluminum, which is lighter.
Nonetheless, only the new material of the frame is getting all the attention, while there’s more metal on the body, contributing to the weight. It’s very possible that Samsung will shave off some weight from the metal body of the phone by making it thinner or even changing the material, in order to avoid making the phone heavier than the S23 Ultra’s 234g.
We are still months away from the launch, and we will update you as more information surfaces.
