Samsung is going to add a new model to the S25 lineup—the Galaxy S25 Slim. As the name suggests, this is expected to be slimmer than the other models and is expected to launch separately sometime after the launch of the main lineup at the Galaxy Unpacked on January 22.
According to rumors, the S25 Slim will boast a 200MP main camera, an ultrawide, and a 3.5x periscope telephoto camera. This is interesting because the key highlight of the phone is going to be its slim form factor and fitting a periscope telephoto with a 50MP sensor (most likely respectively large) is going to be technically challenging.
New camera tech with S25 Slim?
Recently the company announced its development of a new lens technology called ALoP, which practically reduces the protrusion of the camera module. As you might have already expected, this tech is rumored to be included with the upcoming slim model.
There isn’t much information available about the thickness of the phone yet. However, the ‘Slim’ branding makes it seem reasonable to expect at least a 1mm slimmer form factor than the 7.6mm Galaxy S24. Samsung recently launched a special edition of its latest book-style foldable called the Z Fold Special Edition in South Kores, which is also nearly 2mm slimmer than the original Z Fold 6.
Adding to the anticipation, leaked aluminum dummy units of the other S25 series devices also measured slimmer than their predecessors. Based on concept renders, the overall design of the ‘Slim’ model is expected to be similar to the other models – flat sides and rounded corners. In terms of size, the Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to pack a 6.7-inch screen, so Samsung is not looking for something like the vivo X200 Pro mini.
Other specifications:
According to a recent leak from tipster @TheGalox_, the ‘Slim’ model will boast “specs similar to the Ultra model but thinner”. Not to mention, it suggests the use of Snapdragon 8 Elite. However, Samsung is likely to differentiate the S25 Ultra model with better cooling, a bigger battery, and overall higher performance capability and yes, the S Pen.
Pricing is another factor to watch. If ALoP technology is indeed included, the Slim model could be priced close to the Ultra model.
In comparison, the iPhone 17 Air/Slim might come with only two cameras, which is rumored to exclude a telephoto. So the S25 Slim (clearly intended as a competitor to Apple’s Slim model) could offer an edge in camera capabilities.
Nonetheless, both devices are in the early stages of their development and more information is likely to emerge going forward. The S25 Slim, if successful, is rumored to pave the way for the design language for the S26 lineup.
